Oct. 1: Early in the week we had bought our tickets for Thursday for the boat ride because the forecast called for a sunny day. The weatherman was right! It was a little chilly, but fine.
One of the old houses on the lake, across from the dock. It now houses a veteran's group's offices
The lake is 72 square miles - over 25 miles long-and has 365 islands, many of which are only accessible by boat. In years past there were no utilities on them for the many houses.
One island looks like a rattlesnake, bears the name, and the snakes were found on it until 1946. Another one is called the small rattlesnake island
The lake freezes from around Christmas time until late March or early April. Small planes land on it, cars drive on it, and there are motorcycle races on it. It is the 3rd largest lake in the country that is totally within one state.
This is one house!
More lake homes-year-round? Not if on an island, because the lake freezes over
A real estate office in Wolfeboro had a flyer for a 5 bedroom home that rents for $13,000/week!
These aren't them, but several around the lake are for sale from $4-6 million. A flyer for a $6.6 million one said it had been for sale for almost 6 years and annual taxes are $63,000.
Tom went through the Wright WWII museum. Maury will have hip replacement Nov. 2, so he didn't walk there. He found benches to sit on and people to visit with while Susan and I perused the cute shops. Had a nice lunch with a view of the lake.
Wolfeboro was established in 1770. This is the old train station
