Oct 4 Spending 5 hours on back roads, great color, visiting The Vermont Country Store

It was 40 degrees when we drove away from the condo at 9:45 and a big craft show was being held in the park and a foot race was in town.

This tire cover says "All who wander are not lost."

We stopped at a river viewpoint in the Green Mtn. Forest.  The trail is already full of leaves.  Even with Tom's good camera, the colors don't look as vibrant in these pictures.  And most of them today I took through the windshield.  We loved these whole hillsides covered in changing trees.

We're very disappointed in this picture because the
colors were phenomenal-even Tom could
tell they were nice:

We've seen lots of big, old barns in New England.  On today's
drive we saw 6 horses, a herd of goats, some cornfields, a sorghum
field, 3 or 4 herds of cattle, 2 dairy farms

We haven't seen any quilt blocks painted on barns here.

The real photographer in the family gets upset when things like
power lines are in the way of the subject.

We ate a chilly lunch on a bench in a park.  With Tom's colorblindness,
he sees colors differently and he thought this tree was beautiful.
This church was across the street from the park in the small town

Other things we saw:
ski resorts
sign with a spinning wheel on it and saying Six Loose Ladies
Many driveways along the highway marked with a flag
Several people splitting firewood
Many of the small towns were chartered in the 1760's
A snowman made with 3 pumpkins, top hat, and a scarf of hay

Our destination was The Vermont Country Store.  The red building goes very deep and is connected
to the white one.  It has just about everything imaginable in it-the ultimate country store.  I used to receive their catalogs.

I've never seen so many mums in my life.  At businesses, homes, churches they are
used in many displays, usually with lots of pumpkins.  Friends who have lived or visited
New England told me this would be the case.

Another fun day!
