Oct. 3 Driving to Stowe, VT. to use as a homebase for daily road trips

We had passed this pretty Baptist church in Weirs Beach, N.H. and stopped to take a picture of it before leaving town.  Susan and I walked around a quilt show and saw all the beautiful things.

The leaves are really starting to turn now-after the rain this week and colder nighttime temperatures.
We love all the old buildings we see along the back roads.
We've seen far more proudly flown flags on businesses, homes.
and town light poles than we see most places.  Love it!

Colorful trees way up high, a clearing which houses a farm, and more trees along the highway
Tom is color-blind and says the orange and red leaves look brown to
him, darn it.  He likes the yellow ones.

Things we saw:
bear crossing sign, moose crossing and moose area signs
White church steeples sticking up through colored leaves, like you see in magazine pictures
At one point it seemed like we were quite high, but our GPS said it was only 1,320'.  It makes
a difference when you're so close to the ocean
Drove through several small villages.  A lot of houses for sale.  Some are gigantic and and many are  built in the old style of having the barn attached on the back.

The town of Enfield had scarecrow type figures all over town-one was holding a huge trophy, one was in a graduation robe and mortar, a bride and groom were on the lawn of the Methodist church.

Quechee gorge

This was pretty.  So far down from the bridge we were standing on.  Leaves were starting to turn.
Ate lunch upstairs in CJ's Tavern-great burgers and haddock sandwich.  Several small shops sold everything from pottery items, the cutest Halloween and Fall gourd items, décor, jewelry, bulk candy, VT. maple syrup, VT. Cabot cheese, clothes.  Cute baby clothes with moose designs on them.
