June 6 Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

We crossed the St. Mary's River on the International Bridge to Ontario-3 miles long and $3.50 each way.  Going into Canada they didn't ask to see our passports and asked 3 questions.  Coming back, lots more questions, looked at our passports and went through several boxes, etc. in truck bed.  We just wanted to drive around the area over there.  It rained very hard from 8:30 last night till 10 this morning-typical Midwest rain.  Cleaned a little this morning and Tom defosted the refrigerator again.  Still have those little tasks to do.  Started clearing up so we headed out and it was very nice the rest of the day.  A little windy, but we aren't anywhere near where the tornado hit today.
There are Victorian homes over there, too.  Tom went into the Bush Plane and forest fire fighters museum, where they had 24 vintage planes.  In one he got in the cockpit and it had a simulator like you were flying over Agawa Canyon, which is where we'll take our train trip Tues.  Said it was really neat from that perspective.
Drove 45 minutes north along Lake Superior.  Pretty drive and stopped at Chippewa Falls.  Pretty, but not real big-probably because they hadn't had rain all spring.  One guy there said sometimes it is completely full and water is spraying where we were standing.  As we walked through the woods to get there, it reminded me of a plaque we saw in a State park the other day that said poison ivy is beneficial to 60 species.
As in  Michigan, there were lupine flowers growing wild along the highway - pinks and purples.  Mark, there was a weapons carrier truck for sale.  Many miles had signs warning about moose in the area.  Some signs even had yellow lights on top.  I guess that was where they really should cross, being cautious.  Ha!  Anyway, we were hoping to see one - far off the road- but didn't.
One brochure said there has been quite a large influx of Mennonites moving to that area and to be sure to visit their farmer's market in the summer.  Too early here for those.  Back downtown and past the Hard Wok Cafe.  Walked the mile long boardwalk along the river, looking across it to things we talked about yesterday on the Mich. side-Soo Power Plant etc.  It was a real boardwalk and next to it was an asphalt bike trail.
Everywhere we've driven we've seen adopt a highway signs.  Over there they have adopt a city street.
Too windy for me outside right now.  We have a fun scenic trip planned for tomorrow.  Stay tuned!
